Bamboo steamers are typically used for cooking Chinese dim sum, but have many virtues that make them handy for all types of food. The domed lid traps steam efficiently and the two baskets can be stacked to accommodate different foods in each level. These steamers are usually used inside a wok (be sure your wok is about 2" wider than the 10" baskets) but can also be set over a stockpot.
Bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant in the world, and the largest member of the grass family. Recognized for it's strength, versatility and sustainability as a viable alternative to wood, Bamboo has become a more widely used environmentally friendly alternative in various household items, and even in fabric! Bamboo can be harvested without killing the plant, maintaining topsoil and preventing erosion.
